LASD says it will not accept Live Scan or firearm training completed before application submission, effective October 1. Submit first and wait for CCW Unit instructions. This is LASD’s existing policy, not a new statewide rule.

Follow the application sequence
LASD’s official CCW page states: “a live scan or Firearm training completed before the application was submitted will not be accepted.” It also instructs applicants to wait for the CCW Unit before completing either step.
Submitting the application alone is therefore not an instruction to book training. Follow the unit’s directions for your application. If you already completed either step early, contact LASD about your file rather than assuming it will count.
A local policy, not today’s statewide change
This guide highlights an October 1 policy verified on October 29. It does not announce a new California-wide requirement. Applicants using another licensing agency should follow that agency’s instructions.
